FAQ

What is Frequent Traveler University (FTU)?

At our two day events, attendees hear from some of the world’s best-known travel writers and industry experts about how they stay within budget while maximizing their travel opportunities. You’ll leave the weekend with a better understanding of the loyalty programs you care about, as well as a variety of tips and tricks to make your miles and points take you further.

Who is Frequent Traveler University operated by?

The Frequent Traveler University is a project of the Frequent Traveler Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. If you’re interested in the team that runs the events, we have a dedicated page for that.

Who speaks at FTU?

Speakers at FTU are experts in their field and most are bloggers who write often about the travel industry. A majority of our speakers have been featured in print, online and televised media, too. Our speakers are not limited to one specific blogging platform, and are chosen from a wide variety of sources based on their expertise and knowledge. We review the popularity of our speakers after each event based on the post-FTU survey that is sent to each attendee.

Are their any discounts available to attend FTU?

Sometimes we offer limited time discounts to attend an FTU. We usually offer a small discount to attendees of previous events, as well as premium members of the InsideFlyer community. Check out social media pages often for any available discounts offered to the public!

Why isn’t FTU ever in my home town?

We choose the location of our FTUs based on a lot of factors and have requirements we must meet in order to keep the price down for attendees. We try to change the location for each of our events, though apologize if you’re not able to make it due to the location.

Are most attendees local?

Each of our events feature a mix of attendees, both local and those that travel in from afar. A large amount of our attendees fly in for our events, so don’t let the location stop you from coming!

Oh, no! The FTU I want to attend is sold out!

Our events are very popular and it’s not uncommon for one to sell out. If it does, be sure to check the forums on InsideFlyer for folks interested in transferring their tickets.

Can I be placed on a waiting list for a sold out event?

Unfortunately we do not have waiting lists for sold out FTUs.

Can I transfer a ticket from one event to another event several months later?

Unfortunately, no. Each event completely separate, therefore tickets cannot be transferred between them.

I have a question about FTU. Who can I email?

Email ftuniversity@ftuniversity.com.

Am I required to stay at the host hotel?

No, you aren’t, though we try to negotiate the best rate for attendees. To maximize on your social time with speakers and attendees, we recommend staying at the event property, that way you don’t miss out on the fun!

Who sponsors FTU events?

We have a wide variety of major companies that sponsor our events, include hotel chains, car rental companies, online travel websites and more! To become a sponsor or to learn more about sponsorship opportunities, contact Scott.

What will I receive if I sponsor an FTU?

In general, we can offer on-site advertising, marketing to attendees and previous attendees, as well as unique branding/discount/offer opportunities with our partners. We have several sponsorship packages available, each with their own benefits. Contact Scott for more information.

What should I bring to an FTU?

When you attend, we highly recommend bringing a laptop or tablet in addition to a notepad and pen. Some of our sessions benefit from having internet access, which is usually provided. We do not allow recording or video taping of our speakers or sessions.

Can I video or audio record a session?

No. To protect the integrity of our events, and the information from our speakers, we do not allow recording of our events. This is strictly enforced.

Can I get the slides or information presented from a particular session?

If the speaker is comfortable with sharing these, they will provide a means to obtain them which will be announced during their session. Unfortunately, we do not distribute any presentations, as these are owned directly by the specific speaker.

I have a question about a particular session. Where can I find out more information?

If after looking at our online schedule you still have questions, contact Jamie and he’ll help answer for you.

I have an idea for a session! Who can I contact?

We’re always looking for new session ideas! Email Jamie with your suggestion.

I need to transfer a ticket. Who do I contact?

You can transfer a ticket up to 4 days prior to the start of an event. To transfer a ticket, email Melinda. Please have the contact information of the person you are transferring the ticket to, and be prepared to pay the $25 transfer fee.
